Jorick Albers, Account Director

Hague Corporate Affairs

My Job

I advise clients across sectors on public affairs and strategic communication vis-à-vis EU stakeholders, helping businesses to understand and navigate complex policy and regulatory issues.

As a Dutch native who is at home in Brussels, I act as a liaison between Hague Corporate Affairs’ EU office and our Netherlands-based offices.

My Experience

I joined Hague Corporate Affairs from Brunswick Group, where I worked policy and regulatory issues in the field of energy and sustainability. I also supported a broad range of organisations in developing and implementing communications and media engagement strategies, as well as handling media in critical business situations, including transactions, reputional crises and ESG.

Prior to my consultancy career, I was involved in various research projects at think tanks across Europe, among others as a Visiting Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).

My Proudest Achievements

Seeing our work with clients translated into positive policy outcomes or reading about it in the newspapers is rewarding. Being part of one of the fastest growing Dutch advisory firms and working with some of the brightest people in the industry is a privilege.

My Education

  • Joint Master’s Degree in European Studies from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.

My Languages

English and Dutch. Working on my Italian (for non-work conversations)

My Interests outside work

I love both the city and country. After spending the week in the city, I enjoy getting out into nature during the weekends. I play the guitar and enjoy listening to the virtuosos, especially Eric Clapton.

My Favourite Brussels anecdote

Former Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker reportedly said: “We decide on something, leave it lying around, and wait and see what happens. If no one kicks up a fuss, because most people don’t understand what has been decided, we continue step by step until there is no turning back.”

Moral of the story: Know what’s going in Brussels and make a fuss at the right time.
